We are in quite unpredicted times. No matter what industry you work in or what part of the world you re living we are all more or less experiencing the same thing. But the real question is, what should advertisers and brands be doing at this specific moment.
At the start of this crisis, we had advertisers and brands and businesses worried about 'we' the consumers not being able to spend our money on the things we love. But in the time of the UK lockdown we saw supermarket sales sale threw the roof. The panic buying started to make more people feel as if the whole country would run of necessities.
However now that people are more or less adjusting to working from home. It's as if this situation has become the new norm. We've seen an increase in sales in the home and gardening sector. Which I guess this is a time that more people are at home and can find more time to fix things around the house.
Amazon sales figures have even soared. According to BBC News The founder and boss of Amazon has seen his wealth swell by $24bn (£19bn) after soaring demand for online shopping sent the firm's share price to a new high.
We've also seen a more women especially spend more on skincare and beauty products. As professionalbeauty.co.uk stated that UK online beauty sales soar 53% during Covid-19. Showing us that women are dedicating more time to look after themselves.
So what does this means for brands? As more of us are spending more money from being at home. It's important that brands stay relevant and in the forefront of the consumers minds. So should advertising stop? Should product launches be on hold? Should we stop brand collaborations with influencers?
Well in our view the answer is No. It's crucial right now that we brands think of creative ways to share the message with their consumers. It's important to the consumer to see how brands react to times of uncertainty because it builds trust and reassurance. It just goes to show that even in times of uncertainty people want to do the things that seem normal to them, which means shopping for new clothes, buying new beauty products, trying out new fitness workouts from personal trainers online or learning and learning new recipes from magazines.
What are your thoughts, should brands be continuing as normal ? And what brand or brands have really stood out to you in this current time?
